Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority has been established under the West Bengal Town and Country (Planning & Development) Act 1979 (West Bengal Act - XIII of 1979) and has been entrusted with the responsibility of Planning & Development of Siliguri - Jalpaiguri Planning Area. It came into existence on the strength of said Act and on direction of Governor of West Bengal vide notification no- 1878 - T & CP/112-6/80 dtd. 17.3.1980 w.e.f. 1.4.1980 on cessation of Siliguri Planning Organisation under T & CP Branch of Dev. & Planning Deptt., Govt. of West Bengal.
